I'm pretty sure not many of us have seen Kai Ken pups that look like this. These are the first I've seen, and apparently they're extremely rare. They were produced from a kuro-tora and chu-tora breeding.
Maybe one of our in house geneticists can take a gander at what's going on here. They're not white, cream, albino. Are they just brown? These pups are available by the way.

I don't know but they are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThey are really neat! Ah, those hidden genetic loads tell us the secrets of the past...
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the same thing "e" gene that causes cream/white but with a modifier to redden the color.
ReplyDeleteBrown "b" causes brown skin pigment on the nose and eyerims. My monitor is pretty bad with colors, but I don't think these Kai pups have brown skin pigment? Also, brown "b" pups have a blueish eye that turns yellow as they mature.

ReplyDeleteI would name mine "Kin-Tora" (金虎) <-- I hope that's the correct kanji.
ReplyDeleteAlready picking out names! lol Are you sure you aren't getting one? :)
DeleteWould be interesting to see more pics as they grow up. Wonder if they'll end up like Daiichi. Here's Daiichi's puppy pic: http://www.jindos.com/nihon/daiichi_pup.jpg
ReplyDeleteAnd here's a pic of Daiichi as an adult:

Mochi's mother was a similar color. Let me try to find a pic of her...
DeleteHere ya go, Mochi's dam...

I'm not even sure she's a Kai. :oX
I think it may depend on the whisker color. Brown/red/yellow hints to the "e" gene. Black *may* be hinting towards the same gene as found in the Mino. Remember, here's a pic of a Mino pup.

This is REALLY interesting! Brad--you def need to add one of these pups to your collection!!! Maybe you could ask Claire to bring you back one, lol :)
ReplyDeletehaha... no thanks! (tho Jen said she wanted one)
DeleteI'll try and get a look at the whiskers :)
ReplyDelete@Brad you got the kanji right!
That's certainly a horse of a different color! They will probably lighten quite a bit as they age huh.
ReplyDeleteBrad-she doesn't have any brindle it appears. Sort of like a red Shiba with no urajiro.
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful! How do we get ahold of the breeder? Thank you!
