Day 2 of my post a day challenge, continuing with the same Kishu book.
Ken
Sachi
Miyama
Tetsu
And the famous Nachi no Ichi Go
Dai
Hachi
Maru
Not sure how this one's name is supposed to read since there's quite a few readings for this kanji. He's a good example of the difference between the 'shishigata' (boar type) and 'shikagata' (deer type) in the Japanese hunting breeds.
EDIT: Apparently his name is read 'Ri'

Riki
Great idea with sharing the book and seeing you back to posting! I wish I could read Japanese to really dissect the knowledge and history in the book!
ReplyDeleteI've read all these books, over 30 of these old out of print buggers. There's a lot of interesting stuff to glean out of them, but I don't know that I'll ever have time to translate them.
DeleteWhen you say that last dog is a good example of the different types, are Kishu generally more "shishigata" vs that dog, that may be more "shikagata"?
ReplyDeleteI would say that they throw toward heavier dogs, but that's just a matter of opinion, and in comparison to the Shikoku.
